Fan-funded Album in Production: We “Mastered” It

Paul Bryan (producer), Ryan Freeland (engineer) and Gavin Lurssen (mastering engineer) and I sat in a darkened room at Lurssen Studios in Los Angeles yesterday. The mastering process is the last “sonic” process in making the record, where the final sheen and polish, volume and bottom end, go into to the recordings. Then a sequence is made…then you go and listen in your car and ride around for a few days before you make the “glass master” which is what you print CDs from. So I’m riding around and listening now and I have to admit: I’m really proud of this record. I’m so grateful to everyone who is helping to make it happen.Â I’m still raising moneyÂ to complete it and your pre-order helps get it done.Â Abum artwork is underway next…Thanks for playing a part. Strings Happen

Together we’ve raised over 20K to make my new album so far.Â We’re in the thick of production and have 12 songs recorded. “The basics” are the tracks we recorded “live” as a trio at the end of June:Â me, Paul Bryan on electric bass and Jay Bellerose on drums.Â The plan was if we didn’t have enough money we would stop right there.Â Thanks to fans, we had enough to put on two background singers, Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills, who are two up-and-coming singers now on the road with Jackson Browne.Â I met Chavonne Morris when we did the Ellen Degeneres show two years ago, singing background vocals for Marc Cohn.Â The producer, Paul Bryan and I hoped we’d raised enough money to get us to NYC and also add a string quartet.Â Thanks to fans and their contributions to this album, it’s going to happen. I hope to capture some video of the action and will post here….
